Tuesday night, April 9th, the members of the Copper Jazz Ensemble delivered an amazing performance to an enthusiastic full house at the West Alley BBQ in downtown Chandler. Led by Director of Bands, Matt Kozacek, and Assistant Director of Bands, Taylor Mitchell, the gifted young musicians gave back to the community and engaged the crowd with exotic jazz melodies like "Freedom Jazz Dance" as arranged by Eddie Harris, and "The Girl from Ipanema," by Antonio Carlos Jobim.

The event served to bring the local community together for an unforgettable jazz experience.  The full house loved hearing our student musicians and the band got to experience the "real world" of jazz gigging and performing in a restaurant atmosphere.  The band also recently competed in the Highland Jazz Festival and earned the highest score of all junior high, high school and club jazz programs!  The band was invited to open for the ASU Concert Jazz Band on Saturday night, April 6th in front of a packed auditorium.  Great job Copper Jazz Band!
